René Legrand and Mado Jolain-Legrand were responsible for Quatre Saisons communication tools with the help of Mathild Staib and of Catherine, the oldest Legrand child who had graduated from a Visual Arts school.  Quatre Saisons communication style was directly inspired by the Bistro codes (red and white checks, hand-written menus painted in white on the windows) and the food-monger shops style (old popular engravings printed in red and black at butcher and dairy shops). The black slate and white chalk, widely used in Quatre Saisons stores to indicate prices, dimensions, opening hours, etc. was a classic of their communication inspiration.
